Workshop: An Evidence based Regional Economic Recovery (info and agenda here)
In response to the challenging economic conditions, business leaders and policy makers in the region are developing innovative solutions focussed at meeting the needs of a diverse community. Despite the urgency, however, supported by the UK Government’s levelling up agenda and the emerging UK Shared Prosperity Fund, it is clear that interventions and policies need to be based on the best evidence available. As such, UWE’s Data Research Access Governance Network (DRAGoN) are partnering with the Bank of England, Office for National Statistics and the West of England Combined Authority to host a workshop to provide insights from evidence generated at the national, regional and local level. At the event, business leaders can come together with the regional and local economic policy community to gain a deeper understanding of the current economic evidence base, while having the opportunity to inform the discussion about future need.

"We need to talk about data" — DRAGoN Launch Event (info here)
1 July 2021
Data is intrinsically intertwined with our day-to-day lives, and for many of us our working lives are focused on understanding data. The rate of change in the world of data, such as sources, uses, and governance is swift. A wider perspective can often spark innovation for those open to seek it.
In this event, the Data Research, Access and Governance Network (DRAGoN) will showcase the current successes, concerns and possibilities associated with data our lives.
We invite you to make new connections and help shape the future of data-related innovations in both research and practice.
The event will take place on 01 July 2021 from 10:00 - 15:45 BST when we will connect a network of people to raise awareness and promote action.

Full programme, presentations and video recordings available here
Access to data in the public and private sector, data governance, and the application of data in new areas have all advanced significantly in recent years. The Covid-19 pandemic has tested many of those advances, sometimes to breaking point, sometimes beyond to new ways of collecting and using data. In this co-organised virtual conference with the Office of National Statistics and UWE Bristol, we discussed what longer-term lessons for data use should we be drawing from the crisis?
